Century General Store was established in April 2014 in Edinburgh. The owners are two friends with a like-minded vision to provide quality goods and great coffee to the store's customers. The idea was born of a love for product design and a wealth of experience in hospitality and customer service. Make sure you visit if you’re planning a trip to the beautiful city of Edinburgh any time soon!

How would you describe the concept of your shop?

To provide city dwellers with timeless essentials for everyday life. Falcon Enamelware has been in our business from day 1 as it fits seamlessly with our ethos - timeless, practical, well designed & affordable.

What do you think makes a good product / design?

For us, the key to good product design is to have simplicity at its core.  The best products are understated and unfussy, whether they are designed to do one thing well or to have multiple uses.

Is there a traditional or unique dish to Edinburgh/Scotland that you would make using any of our Falcon products? Can you also share the recipe?

We've been making great coffee and tea in Falcon Enamel mugs for over 3 years now. Our homemade sandwiches and brunch dishes sit perfectly on Falcon dinner plates, as does our granola in the Falcon pudding bowls.

One of our favourite brunch dishes is our French Toast with Caramelised Banana, Honey Poached Blueberries & Fife Strawberries (you have a picture of this dish :))  With fresh and seasonal produce, you can't go wrong!

Can you describe or give tips on the best places to eat, drink, source ingredients in Edinburgh?

We are so fortunate in Edinburgh to have so many fantastic places to eat, many of which are dedicated to local and ethical sourcing of their ingredients and products. Abbeyhill, the area in which Century General Store sits, has an abundance of fantastic eateries, such as The Gardener's Cottage, Deli Polentoni, Red Kite Cafe, and The Manna House Bakery. A  great assortment of small family businesses is so important to an urban  neighbourhood.  Further afield, head to Spoon, Lovecrumbs, Timberyard, Secret Herb Garden or Aizle to be guaranteed a carefully-considered, memorable plate of food in friendly surroundings.  You may even spot your favourite Falcon enamelware on the tables at Spoon.  Round off a day of city-centre wandering with a trip to Mary's Milk Bar for a scoop or three of ice cream.
