UNPLUGGED REST

After a two week silent retreat in the Himalayas, Hector and friend Ben co-founded the off-grid cabin retreats Unplugged Rest. With cabins dotted across the countryside, they provide an idyllic escape from a busy life. Hector shares the simple concept behind Unplugged and what he loves most about the changing of the seasons.

What were your main inspirations when starting up Unplugged?

We really started by trying to solve the problem for ourselves. I very much wanted to go to a cabin and lock my phone in a box but there just wasn't anything out there that did the job. The more we thought about it the more we realised we can't have been the only ones missing this.

How has it evolved over the years?

The concept and ethos hasn't changed at all- we've really focused on keeping it simple. But how we've delivered that has changed massively and that's all thanks to the brilliant team we've built along the way. The experience is far slicker than the days it was just me, Ben and a cabin.

What do you love most about Falcon in and around the cabins?

They're wonderfully durable. We tried a few products before which kept breaking, I'm not sure we've had a single issue with Falcon products in the years we've used them. They look great too, and most importantly guests love them- we're always getting compliments for them!

What do you enjoy about the cabins in the Autumn?

It's great to get the wood stove back in use and have a cosy evening in with a book, and also there's something magical about walking in nature in autumn. It's an underrated season!

Do you have any exciting upcoming projects you are working on?

Very much so. We've been at 95% occupancy for the last year so the biggest focus is launching more cabins in more wonderful locations, and bringing with them unique angles and experiences. We'd also love to do more to support people who'd like to be a little more Unplugged at home so we recently launched a shop to help do just that.

Are there any other companies you have been loving recently?

We recently did a partnership with Offline Club, a company based in the Netherlands doing offline events in cities. That's very mission aligned so I very much enjoyed that.
