How to use a Flower Frog : Rachel Ince

Rachel Ince of The Walled Flower Garden shares a simple way of arranging with a flower frog for your Easter displays. Guided by what is growing and in season.

For this piece, she works with our Spring Green Fruit Bowl now included in our Easter offer at 20% off. Use code EASTER26 at checkout.

Its soft colour and generous shape offer a calm setting for the stems, allowing the arrangement to settle naturally.

Using a Flower Frog, she builds the composition slowly, branch by branch, so that it feels balanced but not arranged. The finished bowl has the ease of something gathered, rather than composed.

How to Use a Flower Frog

  • Begin by placing a large Niwaki Kenzan flower frog or similar securely in the base of your bowl, then fill the bowl with fresh water.

  • Start your arrangement with sturdy, structural foliage, such as apple blossom branches or any strong stems from your garden, to create a natural framework.

  • Next, introduce a secondary foliage to add depth, texture, and interest. Rachel suggests flowering currant for its softness and seasonal beauty.

  • Finally, add your chosen flowers for colour, scent, and visual impact. In this arrangement, scented narcissi and tulips bring a fresh, spring-like feel.

  • The result should be a loose, natural-looking display, almost as if the flowers are still growing in the garden.
